Simple Splendor

Random factoid that would only every come in handy if you were stranded in the depths of Asia or if you were a contestant on Jeopardy:

Bamboo pith contains cyanide. The golden bamboo lemur eats around 500g of bamboo a day... which is 12 times the amount of cyanide lethal to most animals.

The things you learn while watching TVO.

Yesterday was a good day. I started it off by baking cupcakes! I was heading up to Courtland to say good bye to "my kids" before school finished for them.

They were such a great bunch to work with and they've given me some fantastic memories! I'm going to miss them, but I'll go back and visit next year.

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

Qasir met me there and after our little good bye party and the official Sacred 8 Ceremony, we headed out.

Qasir and I walked from Courtland to my house for lunch, and then from my house to Nathan's house.

We stopped to play in a park. Qasir said that this was his serious face.

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

I've walked for at least an hour everyday for the past five days. I figure that if we keep up at the rate we have been, we'll waste away to nothing by the end of the summer.

We sat around Nathan's house for... ages! It was nice and air conditioned.

Qasir went to get his hair cut and Nathan took the dog to vet, so I hung out with Nathan's brother Jordan. I saw all of his amazing pictures from all the places he's been. He works on a cruise ship and leaves again on Saturday. Must be nice....

Qasir and I (and recently Nathan) have been planning a camping trip. And by planning I mean talking about it feverishly with little to no advancement as far as planning is concerned.

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

So Nathan busted out the "Camping Map of Ontario" and tried to help us pick a camp ground. That would have been a notable step forward to getting this trip rolling.

We did not, however, pick anywhere.

We're still at square one but I'm determined to go.

This was Qasir's attempt to be the next Shreddies poster boy.

I told him he failed.

If yesterday was any indication of how the rest of my summer will be, I can expect to have one hell of time!

My mum, brother and I went to the city's multicultural festival. We saw a few acts, browsed around the booths and had some amazing food. After that my mum mentioned how she had been considering getting the cuff of her ear pierced. I convinced her to get it done at a place down town.

We all came home pierced.

She got her cuff done, my brother got his lip pierced, and I got my left vertical trag. I also ended up coming home with a new pair of shoes.

After that I came home, took a nap (naturally, it had been a long day :P ), and got ready to head out again. Nathan's brother's were throwing a massive party - complete with rented hot tub. I had the most amazing time. Drunk people are great; drunk people ropeboarding are even better!

I even went star spinning ;)

But I can't talk about last night (well, early morning at this point) without mentioning the walk home! It's got to be a good 20 - 30 minute walk from Nathan's house to mine - if you cut through the woods. Steve, Tyler, Nathan and I ventured off and walked it at 2:00 am. Holy crap it was wicked. I'm surprised we made it though. Come to think of it, I never really checked that the boys made it back in one piece. Not only did I get piggy-back rides, but I also got about a million hugs and high fives.

Steve: "Andrew said he wanted us to bring back Big Turks."
Me: "The only place that'll be open is Big Bear, but it's out of our way."
Tyler: (in a quiet, tiny voice) "Ummm... Guys. I don't think we should go. I'm scared of bears!"

We were outside of my house when this was said. It took everything we had not to burst out laughing (which would have woken my mum).

I was talking to Qasir online and he really needed to pee. I waited and waited and Qasir wasn't coming back. So I got bored and drew him a picture. The line below it reads "A flaming stereo isn't enough to stop a closet monster from dancing."

20 minutes passed and Qasir still hadn't come back. When he finally did, he informed me that he started watching tv and forgot all about me. But then he said that my picture was very creative... so I forgive him.

Well, that concludes the highlight reel boys and girls.

I hope that it made up for the lack of posting as of late. There are so many more pictures, but I'm saving them for a rainy day ;)

Completed 2 of my 3 exams today. All that's left is German on Friday. Should be easy.

I'm tired and my ear has been driving me nuts all day. It's time for bed I believe.

Looking like some crazy times are ahead - lots of plans for the next few days.Hopefully there will be some pictures and stories to come.

Hun, you're absolutely adorable and I'm so glad you could make it. Thanks for your card... it honestly ment so much to me :)

Congrats to you both. I love you guys!

This is a sick picture I took of Dave F. at my party! There's a work lamp behind him.

I (heart) it.

Speaking of Dave...

Here he is giggling fireside.

Yes, we had another one. Yes, it was very, very difficult to get rid of the smell.

Had my birthday party at Nathan's on Saturday.

I'm finally 18. Word.

I bought these candle stick things that I got to try and keep the bugs away. We left them unattended and, when I looked over, they had set a patch of grass on fire.

Here's Nathan M. playing with them.

I got home late and went right to bed. When I woke up the next morning my brother said "What smells like smoked bacon?" Saddly, it was me. I still haven't managed to get the fire smell off of my phone.

Friday night we had a random fire in Nathan's fire pit and a bunch of people randomly showed up. It was a good night. Between us we ate (and threw) half a bag of chocolate chips and a can of cashews.

This is Steve and Beth at the random fire.

No more prom pictures for the time being. I'll post more later when there are no other pictures to post and nothing to write about.

This was followed by us heading back to the dance floor to dance.

The past few days have been so great!

Thursday night was prom, Friday night I hung out with friends, yesterday was my 18th birthday and I had a party last night.

There is quite a bit to be said about everything and you can definitely expect a whole lotta pictures to be posted!

But I'm just about to head out to spend Father's Day at my grandparents' house. So you'll have to wait either until I get home tonight, or I get around to it tomorrow.

Thursday, June 16, 2005

Prom is tonight. It seems weird that it's here already. I don't feel like I'm done highschool yet (mind you, I'm glad that I am). It's sad to think that in two months a ton of my friends will be all over Canada, and some in the US, starting university. Oh well. It's a happy thing when you really think about it. We're growing up, moving on, and gearing up for all those cute university boys (or girls, which ever the case may be). It would be pretty lame if we wanted to stay here forever... so what better time for you to leave than now?

I sort of wish I was doing the same and heading out next year. On the other hand, it's so awesome to think that I've got an entire slack year ahead of me! A few simple classes at a new school (and I mean simple!!), a bit of money making, and a whole lotta lounging around.

Anyway, I should get going. I want to take a nap before I need to start on my hair. Hopefully there will be pictures!

Prom tonight. Not going to school tomorrow. 18th birthday Saturday. WooT!

Monday, June 13, 2005

I hung out with Qasir and Nathan again tonight. Our first stop? The dollar store!! You can always manage to make a trip to the dollar store awesome wicked fun. Always.

We all expected them to kick Qasir out of the store. He thought it was because he was brown, I thought that it was because he tried to shoplift this nifty pair of pink child's sunglasses.

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

Can you really blame him though? I mean, they're just so becoming. Not so much with the plastic tag thing protruding from his face. But use your imagination here folks. I can't do all the work for you.

The funny thing is, when I was looking at the enlarged version of it, there is this woman in the background with the greatest expression on her face. It kind of reads:

"Those teenagers are completely retarded."

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

We just had to take a picture of me with the pig that was so hungry he ate his own chin. Don't bother asking. There is honestly no funny story behind it. Come to think of it, there is no story behind it what so ever. I just kind of proclaimed it and demanded that Qasir take the picture.

It doesn't help that it's a bad picture - of both myself and the pig!

We went back to Nathan's where everyone was ropeboarding. Watched that for a while. Got bitten pretty bad again. Then Qasir and I went on a search to find Nathan; it was sort of anti-climactic and wasn't in the least as adventerous as I had hoped it would be.

Originally uploaded by Amy Cow.

We ended the evening just hanging out on Nathan's front porch.

P.S. If there's something you don't want everyone to know - don't tell Qasir.

Sunday, June 12, 2005

I was lounging around, cursing the heat when I realised I hadn't posted in a few days. So here I am doing it now.

Friday was a good end to a shit week. Nathan, Qasir and I went to RONA to pick up eight bags of mulch. You're right; eight bags does seem like a lot! But Nathan insists that it was all needed. So off we went to RONA. Qasir is such an ass. He both impersonated a German guy (think angry Nazi) and informed the store that Jack the Ripper must have been a very patient man. He then attributed this to him being English. I took great offence... and so did the rest of the store, I'm sure!

He also seized the opportunity to ride the cart.

After that we went to the Bulk Barn. Fortunately for all of us, Qasir didn't have a bulge in his pants this time! We took our goodies back to Nathan's where we lounged around for hours on the deck. Correction: Nathan and I took our goodies back to Nathan's... Qasir mooched for some of our goodies. We talked to Chantelle (spelling?) and Nathan's brother for a while, the later on Jess, Beth, Sarah, Hannah and Hue stopped by. It was an all around good evening.

Then yesterday my dad took me up to Toronto to go shopping as my birthday present! Our first stop was Kensington Market - totally the shit! I love it there. My mum asked me if I was going to live there and when I said yes, she said "Good. Because you'd be crazy not to. This place is just so you. As soon as you get accepted to a Toronto university, start looking for a place in the area." My cousin lives in the middle of it all. It's so amazing!

Anyway, I bought a tee shirt (with the trans am logo on it), some jewelry and some head scarves, and an adidas sport jacket with a little Union Jack on it. It's really nice and light and good for cool, summer evenings - This is what I tell myself to justify buying it. My brother talked me into it. Don't get me wrong, I love it... but it cost me $60.

After a fantastic mosey through the streets of Kensington, we went to this amazing vegetarian buffet! There were just rows and rows of food and it was soooo good! I absolutely loved it and I'll for sure go back next time I'm in the area. My brother, on the other hand, was in hell.

After that we went to the Vaughn Mills mall. The place is massive! All those stores, and all I left with was two pairs of jeans. Very nice jeans though, and on sale too! We went out for a nice dinner before heading home and getting stuck in a massive jam. It wasn't even during rush hour. They had shut down part of the highway because of an accident and they had to redirect all of the traffic.

Anyway, I ended up having $100 left, but spent $10 this morning on a Nalgene. Tomorrow I'll probably buy that pair of cute sunglasses I saw downtown. I'll still have loads to spare.

I turn 18 in six days. Prom is in four. Six school days left before exams, and then I will be all done and graduated. It's going to be a great week. But for now, I'm off to write a monologue for English class.

This week has been ass.

Monday we had to get our damn meningitis needles. I hate needles. It must have gone in on a funny angle or something, because it wasn't until Wednesday afternoon that my arm (finally!) stopped hurting. On top of that I haven't been able to sleep and I've been loaded with work. Things were looking up yesterday until I got home and developed a terrible sore throat and some sinus congestion. It's only gotten worse. I'm going to try and sleep it off now.

Sorry, I don't mean to whine. Let's try and end this on a positive note.

I've got nothing. Hmmm... what about.... I think my hair looked kind of cute today... ?

Wednesday, June 08, 2005

Just finished watching the dvd I bought of all the final projects from my media class. Some of them are so bad they're funny.

Sadly, I remember my movie being much better and cooler than it actually is.

I'm now hooked on the show "Dancing with the Stars." I wouldn't be surprised if that is nothing close to the actual name - figure it out for yourselves. I also would love to learn to quick step.

Ooo! Ooo! My dad's taking me shopping in Toronto on Saturday. It's his birthday present to me. I can't wait. I'm going to come back with lots of clothes. Lots.

Awwww! My mum had a date tonight. She came home all giddy and girlish. He asked to see her again.

Just thought I'd share that with you. I'm quite excited for her. Woot!

I was talking to Dan (C.) today and he informed me that Dave Moffatt is on Canadian Idol. I was thinking he meant as a guest judge or something. No, not a judge. He's a contestant! AHAHAHA! I stopped watching Canadian/American Idol like, seasons ago. It's just ass. I have, however, vowed to watch it until he's kicked off. I watched tonight's episode and saw how ridiculous Dave has become. Absolutely hilarious.

Actually... it's sad. Kinda makes you wonder what's happened to the rest of the Moffatt brothers.

Haven't posted in a few days - I guess I just haven't got 'round to it. (worst grammar ever)

Saturday night was one hell of a night! Went over to Nathan's for a sort of "goodbye Nathan and Andrew" thing. Andrew, Jake, Steve, Tyler, and... Brian? (I'm going to feel like an ass if that isn't his name) were there. I got there at about 9 ish and watched them ropeboard for awhile. It's far more impressive in person than the video on the site - and that video is pretty impressive!

Unfortunately, they were doing it by the stream thing at the back of Nathan's yard. That meant massive amounts of mosquitoes! I think I got the most bites of anyone, which isn't uncommon for me. There's a line of bites that runs all the way across my lower back - the spot of exposed skin where my pants and shirt didn't meet. It wasn't just exposed skin that they went for though. I somehow ended up with bites up the backs of my legs. The little fuckers were able to bite through my jeans! West Nile anyone?

We stayed at Nathan's until about 11:30 - had a beer, and just hung out. After that we drove around, made a stop at Tim Hortons and... yeah. We managed to entertain ourselves for the evening. I had to be home by 1. It had been such a long day and I was so tired, but I was up all night scratching. I can assure you that it was totally worth it!

I'll post about Sunday and Monday later. I really should get back to my work.

Had a good day yesterday. Hung out with Nathan and a few people at his house. Ooo! He got me a kick ass belt buckle for my birthday. He leaves tomorrow morning, so I think we're hanging out tonight.

We also went to Nicole's birthday party. Everyone had such an awesome time! I wasn't drinking, so instead I took a load of pictures. Here's one of a group of us. Sadly, the birthday girl didn't end up in this one. :(

There will be more later.

Nathan leaves for his tree planting gig tomorrow night and will be gone for a month. He feels bad for missing my birthday, so he wants to take me out tonight.

It's also Nicole's birthday party this evening.

All this birthday talk and I still have no idea what I'm doing for mine. The only two suggestions I got were to go to Victoria Park (which, on a Staurday night, is not a good idea. That's where all the couples from Club Ren. go to have sex. Talk about a party crasher.), and Mel and Nicci think I should have a Harry Potter stripper.

I had better come up with some good ideas soon.

Some congratulatory remarks are in order.

Qasir: Way to read the fine print. If it were me, I wouldn't have found out until the package arrived in the mail. Those tricky, tricky people at U of T... You'll fit right in!!

Alex: All it took was for you to take a little action and for you to make U of W accept you. I'm proud of your forcefulness... and $2000 to boot!

Nathan: You're a tree planter! Woot! It's about time you equalized your CO2 emissions... I'm only kidding. Don't work too hard. On second thought, do work hard and buy me something pretty. :P

Another post later.

Wednesday, June 01, 2005

Today was such an awesome day!

It was a half day, which in itself would have made it a good day (the less time I spend at school, the better. Graduation could not come any sooner!). But Qasir, Jess, Mel and I went looking for a prom dress for me. No luck I'm afraid. We shopped around before heading back to Qasir's where Qasir, Jess, Alex and I watched The Red Violin for the gazillionth time in order to finish our English assignments. We were done much sooner than I expected to be.

After that Jess, Qasir and myself decided to walk over to Nathan's. A 30 minute walk (tops) - assuming you take the way that Jess and I had planned on. If you take the way Qasir insisted on taking, it will take you an hour. Holy shit. We hung out at Nathan's place for a while (Jake, Andrew and Chantelle were there too) and I made some dinner. Nathan took me home and then I remembered that I had to take the movie back to the video store. More walking.

I walked for a grand total of over 2.5 hours today. That's right... over 2.5! I walked to school, then from the bus stop to the plaza, plaza to Qasir's, Qasir's to Nathan's, my place to the video store, the video store to home. Insane.

In dire need of sleep. I'll elaborate on all of it tomorrow.
